By some peculiarity, in the early days of lake traffic, most of the captains came from Henderson, Ellisburg and
Hounsfield. From as far back as the records go, about 50 captains came from this territory and of those 24 came from Henderson.
The following recollection of information was compiled by John L. Geeson, a long time resident of Henderson. In his sailing days he met
and personally knew many of the lake captains that were from this area. He was asked in 1973 at age 83 to give a speech at the Sackets
Museum. A oral history tape was created of that speech and is currently in the Sackets Museum. The following pages is the transcript
of that speech.
