THE 1814 CABLE CARRY TRAIL - A WALKING or DRIVING TOUR.

This historic tour measuring approximately 19.7 miles, begins in the town of Ellisburg at the South Landing Bridge. The Boulder-Monument commemorating the battle of Big Sandy on May 30, 1814, is located on the south side of the bridge. On the bridge's north side, in the DEC parking lot, are informational maps and explainations of the events. The trail begins on Route 3 to Route 289. At Lee Road is the first (of three) bronze monuments which mark where the Militia rested after a full day's march. The trail continues through belleville on Route 75 to the second marker at Butterville. The trail then continues through Smithville and on to the corner of Route 75 and 3 at the third marker. The trail traditionally ends at the Dock Square at the Sackets Harbor Village Information Center, where an etched stone monument marks the conclusion of the trail.
